A Beauty and Brilliance
LLLL LLLLLLLLL LLike No Other.
Beveled glass windows create a luxurious, elegant feel like no
other. A brilliant, custom classic, beveled glass windows and glass
inserts by Sans Soucie are available any shape or size in virtually
any design. As with all Sans Soucie Art Glass, each piece is custom
made to order to your specifications.
Bevels acts as prisms in the sunlight, creating an stunning color
diffraction which both highlights the glass work and provides a
spectrum of colors within the clear glass.
Beveled glass for windows and doors is created by taking glass that
is typically 1/4″ thick, and creating an angled surface cut (bevel)
around the entire permitter of each individual piece. Some beveled
glass clusters and designs are machine cut, but since the majority
of the pieces we create are custom designed, our pieces are
typically made up of beveled pieces that have been custom hand-cut,
and hand beveled, specific to each design and piece. The beveled
clusters are then surrounded by various types of machine textured
glass in the “field” (the area surrounding the bevel clusters that
make up the rest of the panel), that’s normally 1/8″ or 3/16″
thick, depending on the glass. The most popular textures used in
the field that you’ll see in many of our pieces is taffeta glass,
delta and delta frost, seedy glass, and other “flemish” textures.
As with stained glass, each piece is set together in a framework of
strips of lead that are joined and soldered together. The overall thickness of the art glass panel in the lead frame is
3/8″ thick. For exterior applications, the art glass panel is first
meticulously cleaned to perfection by our glass artists, then
sealed between two layers of 1/8″ tempered glass, creating what’s
known as a “triple pane unit“, a minimum of 5/8” thick overall.
How much, how long?
This type of art glass has the highest material cost and is the
most labor intensive of all the glass types we create. Price will
vary by the complexity of the design and the quantity of beveled
pieces, with an average square foot price starting at $250. Glass
ships worldwide, fully insured, and is custom packed in-house by
our expert artist glaziers. Domestic transit times range between
2-4 days, international will average 5-8 business days.
